What You Need To Know ...
- Once you’ve selected a few candidates, check their background and references carefully. Then find out if he or she is trained in CPR and the Heimlich maneuver. Ask how the babysitter would handle emergency situation. Then ask personal questions. Does he or she smoke, drink.
- If you’re happy with the answers so far, ask about transportation. Does he or she have a way to get to and from your home? Does he or she have a valid driver license?
- How mush to pay? You can expect to pay between $10 and $20 per hour, depending on the babysitter’s age, certifications and experience. Plan to pay extra if you will be asking the babysitter to do anything beyond just watching your kids.
- Ask them to baby sit for a few hours while you’re home. Don’t hesitate to offer the sitter tips on interacting with your children, since each child is different. After he or she has left, ask your children what they thought about there new sitter. If you like what you hear, then congratulations, you found a good babysitter.
